You don’t necessarily need waterproof shoes for trail running, particularly if you’re more of a fair-weather runner. But if you’re going to be regularly running in wet weather, snow or places with a lot of mud, they can be advisable.
Some are, but not all. Fortunately, adidas’ waterproof options feature GORE-TEX and Rain.RDY membranes that are breathable, so you can count on your trail running shoes for dryness and comfort.
While all waterproof trail shoes offer protection to stop water getting in, they don’t necessarily provide extra grip for wet conditions. adidas’ waterproof footwear with Traxion technology does however have a cleat design on the outsole to help you stay steady.
