A rain jacket is essential if you hike in wet weather. It should be waterproof and breathable, with features like a hood, pit zips and sealed seams to keep out moisture. Look for jackets made from nylon or polyester with a waterproof coating. For cold weather, you'll want an insulated jacket to trap your body heat.
